1/45 - Undercover

This 31" x 25" original acrylic mixed media painting has the viewer searching for the gaze of a dryad. She is partially hidden by the mushrooms that adorn her bark-inspired skin and the mossy locks that cascade around her face. This piece was inspired from a forest walk experience in the PNW.

Copious amounts of modeling paste were applied to conjure the textures within the mushrooms, the moss and portions of the tree in which the dryad dwells. Impressionistic brush stroke techniques were utilized to create the bark of the tree, and a palette knife helped to achieve the uniqueness of the mushrooms. A sponge was used to craft the mossy locks growing on this fae's form. Metallic medium was used to highlight elements of this mysterious being's face.
