This 22" x 22" original acrylic painting discovers a rare California flower, the Sonoma Sunshine, hidden within a bed of grass. A magickal find awaits inside the the bloom; tiny, sprites are awakening to the warmth of Spring.

This piece was conjured with copious amounts of modeling paste, enabling elements of the petals to extend off the canvas by nearly two inches. Impressionistic brush strokes were used to grow the grass of the background. Finger painting have an element of smoothness to the bright petals of the bloom. Palette knife techniques were utilized to apply the paint in the core of this bloom and in the sprites hidden in the flower.

This piece was inspired by the endangered flower Blennosperma Bakeri, also known as the Sonoma Sunshine. The magickal sprites were influenced by the puffy white pollen and the reddish-purple stigmas found within the bloom.
