1/49 - Submerged

This 12" x 12" original acrylic mixed media painting reveals the gaze of water nymphs hidden within the tangled seaweed. As lily leaves unfurl and reach towards the water's surface, the nymphs' secluded abode is exposed.

This piece was conjured with copious amounts of modeling paste to extend the edges of the lily leaves off the canvas by nearly to three inches. Palette knife techniques and impressionistic brush strokes create the textures, bringing life to the piece. Metallic medium was utilized to add a sense of magic to one of the 'eyes' of the nymph.
