4/51 - Crystalize

The 30" x 24" original acrylic painting witnesses an earthly fae crystalizing as she stretches out onto what little foliage remains as Winter sets in. This mysterious beauty will remain hidden among the frosted grasses and leaves until the warmth returns. This piece was inspired by a unexpected frost in mid-November in the Pacific Northwest.
Modeling paste and palette knife techniques were used to accentuate the layering of the leaves. Various brush strokes with multiple sized brushes were utilized to create a grass-like texture for the background. A soft, Impressionistic technique applied the paint to the fae and to create the illusion of frost upon the leaves using metallic mediums.
